I need to lose some weight and the dietitian in my cardiac rehabilitation program has suggested eating more fiber. How does that help?

High-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and nuts and seeds provide many benefits when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off.
1. These foods are "nutrient dense," which means they give you the most nutrition for the least amount of calories.
2. They fill you up and keep you from getting hungry quickly.
3. They are often crunchy, which satisfies the need to munch and chew.
4. Fruits and vegetables contain lots of water and can help you to stay hydrated. Often we eat, thinking we are hungry, when actually we are thirsty. Studies show hydrated people snack less.
