There is a link, so that's another reason to keep your blood pressure under control. A new study from the Women's Health Initiative, which followed women over 65 for eight years, found that those with high blood pressure were at increased risk for developing brain lesions associated with dementia. Even moderately elevated blood pressure can damage small blood vessels in the brain, resulting in damage to the surrounding white matter that increases the risk of dementia as well as stroke.
