Do you have any suggestions for starting the new year off right? This year I'd like to stick to my resolutions.

Joe says:

It is wonderful that you are setting health goals for yourself in a "new year, new you" effort. Increase your chance for success by making your goals S.M.A.R.T.

(S)pecific. Have a specific, not a general, goal in mind. Wanting to "lose 20 pounds" is specific; wanting to "lose some weight" is not.

(M)oderate. Tackling more than one goal at a time can dilute your focus and make it harder to stick with a plan. Pick out a primary goal and make it your top priority.

(A)chievable. Make sure your goal is something you can reach. Wanting to lose 20 pounds is a reasonable goal. Losing all 20 pounds in one month is not.

(R)ecordable. You can't manage what you can't measure. Documenting your progress makes you accountable, shows how far you've come and what you need to work on.

(T)ime specific. Review your goals weekly. That way you can trouble-shoot early and change direction when necessary.
