I am a woman with a family history of diabetes. My blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but I don't have diabetes. In fact, I feel fine. Should I be worried?

Joe says:
A fasting blood glucose level of 100 mg/dL puts you at increased risk for developing diabetes and heart disease. Says Dr. Leslie Cho at the Cleveland Clinic, "Researchers have found that women with high fasting blood glucose levels (110 to 125 mg/dL) had the same risk of developing heart disease as those with diabetes. Diabetes greatly increases the risk of heart attack." Your fasting glucose level should be less than 100 mg/dL. If it's not, talk to your doctor about nutrition counseling, more exercise, weight loss techniques and stress management tools that can lower your heart attack risk.
