I have high blood pressure and take medication for it. My son, who is overweight, is 28 years old. I suspect he may have high blood pressure but he says he is too young to have it. Who is right?

A lot of 20- & 30-year olds believe that they are too young to have high blood pressure. But a recent nationwide study shows that about 20% of Americans age 24-32 have hypertension. Experts consider that a surprisingly high number.
So, what to do? First, have your son get his pressure checked. It is recommended that all adults should have their pressure checked at least every two years. If it is high, he needs to watch his diet. Cut down on foods high in sodium & increase foods rich in potassium. He should exercise regularly and lose weight, if he needs to. And finally, he needs to manage his stress.
Be sure to have him work with his health care provider to monitor progress.
