You certainly have a challenge before you with so many complicating factors. Here's what I would do. First, I'd minimize concern over the genetic component as it is something you cannot influence. Next, I'd zero in on what you can do from a lifestyle standpoint to maximize heart health. I assume that you are a non-smoker - that is essential. I would eat a diet rich in fish, nuts, whole grains, vegetables, fruit and lean protein, and avoid foods with saturated and trans fat. I would also strive for portion control to lighten calories & lose a few pounds. Your exercise program may be compromised a bit because of your heart attack, so you need to counsel with your doctor about which exercises you can safely do. Not exercising is not an option. And finally, stay positive. Genetic makeup is not predestination. A positive mental attitude will help you to stick with a healthy lifestyle program. Good luck & let me know how you are doing.
